NAP EURODAC Unit
Tasks of the Unit include transfer of administrative data from aliens’ register to national AFIS and exchange of data with Eurodac Central Unit. The National Access Point has been operational since 1 May 2004.
According to the experience of Member States, asylum seekers falsify their personal data by submitting applications in various countries at the same time. To prevent this from happening, databases with fingerprints of asylum applicants are used across all MS. Information contained in these databases allows to indicate the country – point of entry where the asylum seeker entered the territory of the European Union and thus responsible for the analysis of a relevant asylum application.
Legal basis for Eurodac:
- Council Regulation (EC) No 2725/2000 of 11 December 2000 concerning the establishment of ‘Eurodac’ for the comparison of fingerprints for the effective application of the Dublin Convention;
- Council Regulation (EC) No 407/2002 of 28 February 2002 laying down certain rules to implement Council Regulation (EC) No 2725/2000 of 11 December 2000 concerning the establishment of ‘Eurodac’ for the comparison of fingerprints for the effective application of the Dublin Convention.
