PROFICIENCY TESTING

Proficiency testing by interlaboratory comparison determines the ability of competent laboratory staff members to conduct specific examination. These tests allow for monitoring the quality of work, demonstrating inter-laboratory differences in work quality and defining the sources of possible deterioration in the quality of obtained results.

The Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police participated in the following proficiency tests through interlaboratory comparison:

  • verification of competence in the scope of “Handwriting” organized by ENFSI (European Network of Forensic Science Institutes),
  • international proficiency tests in the scope of questioned documents and handwriting organized by Collaborative Testing Services (USA),
  • examinations of inks organized by Bundeskriminalamt - verification of competence in the scope of “Determination of document authenticity”,
  • examination of cartridge casings and bullets organized by ENFSI and CTS (Collaborative Testing Services) - verification of competence in the scope of “Examination of firearms”,
  • verification of competence in the scope of “Toolmark examination” organized by CTS,
  • exercise organized by ENFSI in the scope of glass examination,
  • examination of powder substances in order to determine the origin of samples,
  • verification of competence in the scope of “Quantitative analysis of amphetamine sulphate utilizing gas chromatography” organized by ENFSI,
  • examinations organized by ENFSI and the UN (the United Nations) in the scope of drug examination,
  • examination organized by ENFSI in the scope of paint examination,
  • examination organized by ENFSI in the scope of GSR examination,
  • verification of competence in the scope of “Forensic DNA Analysis in STR Systems” organized by CTS and GEDNAP (German DNA Profiling),
  • verification of competence in the scope of “Fingerprint identification” organized by CTS,
  • verification of competence in the scope of “Traseology examinations” organized by CTS,
  • proficiency tests in the scope of visualization of marks on the basis of samples prepared by ENFSI FWG (ENFSI Fingerprint Working Group).

The Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police organizes periodical proficiency test by interlaboratory comparison for police forensic experts nationwide, which covers the following:

  • fingerprint examination,
  • traseology examinations,
  • handwriting examination (examination of original documents),
  • quantitative analysis of amphetamine sulphate.
